Saarland University - Prof. Dr. Ingolf Bernhardt

Originally, Prof. Ingolf Bernhardt studied Physics (1971 – 1977) at the Lomonossow University in Moscow (Russia) and specialized in the field of Biophysics.

He started his carrier at the Humboldt University in Berlin (Department of Biophysics, from 1977 – 2000), where he also did his Ph. D. and D. Sc. and became a Private Docent (Reader) in Biophysics.

In 2000 Prof. I. Bernhardt moved from the Humboldt University Berlin to the Saarland University and established a Laboratory of Biophysics. He also got an extraordinary professorship (professor without chair) at the Saarland University. In addition, Prof. I. Bernhardt was the head of the Central Isotope Laboratory at the campus Saarbruecken of the Saarland University.

Prof. I. Bernhardt has been elected the 1st president of the European Association of Red Cell Research acting from 2003 – 2007. Since April 2018 he is in pension.
